imam mahdi (a.s)

After propounding the Qur'an and traditional arguments there remains no doubt amongst the Muslims, irrespective of his religion either Sunni, Shiite, Wahabi or non-Wahabi, regarding the belief in imam al-Mahdi (A.S) and it is proved beyond doubt that it is a genuine Islamic belief, but since the Wahabi sect is having a very narrow-minded belief about some of the concepts of Islam hence from its very inception, it has been a butt of rebuke from the Muslim scholars, therefore we analyze in this brief study Wahabis point of view about imam al-Mahdi (A.S). In fact the following proofs will clarify that like other Muslim scholars Wahabi Scholars also believe in the existence of al-Mahdi (Mahdaviyat) and they regard this belief as the climax of the Islamic creed.

1- The Wahabi sect is an offshoot of Ahlus-Sunnah and like other Muslims, believes in Qur'an and traditions, they also have faith in the traditions of Sehah-e-Sittah and other authentic books, Since the traditions pertaining to imam al-Mahdi (A.S) are quoted from

The belief in the Mahdi is not only an essential doctrine deep-rooted in Islamic faith but rather it is an embodiment of human nature regardless of one’s religious affiliations. For it is the universal desire of humans as a whole to try to achieve or at least witness the realisation of the ultimate objective of their existence, through which they will achieve perfection and social happiness in their entirety. Therefore by reason of inner necessity and inspiration, humans will see a day when society will be replete with justice.

More importantly, from a religious perspective the concept of the Mahdi is the culmination of human struggle in their path towards God the Almighty.

It is when true Justice will be established through

A person is indebted to the blessing of hope and anticipation in his social and personal life. If it was not for this hope and anticipation there would be no purpose in looking forward to the future. Life for such a person would lack goal and meaning. To await and to act go hand in hand, and do not separate.

Anticipation is the cause of acting and movement. The value for the actual purpose of anticipation also gives importance to the anticipation itself. Furthermore, one may become familiar with the value of people through the anticipations they hold:

• Ones’ goal and anticipation may be to receive an increase in salary by the end of the year.

• Another anticipates reaching the end of his studies,

To wait for the return of Imam Mahdi is considered as the best prayer of all, and such a believer has a high position and if he dies while Imam Mahdi is absent, he will have the dignity of those who are there after the return of Imam Mahdi and fight for him and for God.

To wait for the return of Imam Mahdi means:

A) To get to know Imam Mahdi, as the innocent establisher of justice and the pioneer of faith.

B) To have faith in Imam Mahdi being the Imam and our divine and just leader.

C) To have love for justice and for human values.

D) To have hope in a bright future.

· To Love Imam Mahdi

People who are waiting for Imam Mahdi to return should have his love and affection in their hearts all the time. Of course no one could wait for someone else if they do not like him, no matter how well they know him. How could people expect others if they dislike them and how could they get prepared to host them? Therefore, one cannot act like a true believer who expects Imam Mahdi, unless they have the love of Imam inside.

Prophet Muhammad too, appoints this as our duty when Qur’an says, “(O Muhammad): "No reward do I ask of you for this except to be kind to me for my kinship with you."”‌ (Ash-Shura: 23)

· To Try to be More Like Imam Mahdi

When Muhammad bin Abd Allah revolted one of the jurists of Medina by the name of Muhammad bin Ajlan also rose with him. After he was killed Ja’far bin Sulayman the governor of Medina summoned Muhammad bin Ajlan and asked him: "Why did you rise with that liar?" He then ordered his hands to be cut. Other jurists who were present in the court at that time interceded on his behalf emphasizing that Muhammad bin Ajlan was a pious jurist of Medina and had erroneously regarded Muhammad bin Abd Allah as the Mahdi promised in the traditions. [58]

Another well-known jurist and a prominent scholar of the hadith Abd Allah bin Ja’far also rose with Muhammad bin Abd Allah. When the latter was killed he fled from Medina and remained in hiding until he was granted amnesty. One day the governor of Medina passed by him and asked him the reason why he arose with Muhammad bin Abd Allah in spite of his learning in the law and traditions. He replied: "The reason I supported and cooperated with him was that I was confident that he was the promised Mahdi about whom we have been informed in the traditions. I did not doubt Muhammad’s Mahdiism until

A Glance at the Translator’s Introduction

The translation of this important book would have been impossible without the need on my part to respond to those who have attributed to me false notions and ideas which are neither part of my personal faith nor of my academic research. At no point have I entertained, even in error, opinions that cannot be ascertained in the written primary sources of the Twelver Shiism. Every piece of document used to write my academic research is meticulously investigated and critically evaluated in the light of the teachings of the Qur’an and the authentic traditions of the Ahl-ul-Bayt. It is remarkable that Ayatollah Amin’s Dadgustar-i jihan, which I have rendered in English under the title of: Al-Imam al-Mahdi: The Just Leader of Humanity, gives the believer a detailed description of the belief in the twelfth Imam, whose chronological development based on historical study of the sources I have examined in Islamic Messianism: The Idea of Mahdi in Twelver Shiism. More remarkable is the fact that even when Ayatollah Amini and I have approached the subject with strikingly different method of investigation, we have reached the same conclusion regarding the belief about the Imam who will come forth from his invisible existence to take charge of the world as its just leader.

The methodological difference between the two endeavors actually points to
